Ministry Supervision

Ministry supervision is a contemplative space for those who care for others to reflect on their work, and on themselves within it.

The work of ministry holds a lot. Conversations linger, responsibilities mount up, moments surprise us, and our own stories are stirred along the way. Supervision offers a place to slow down and consider who we are in those moments. Despite what the name might imply, supervision isn’t about “looking down” on your ministry work but about joining you in looking at it more deeply.

Together we’ll attend to specific experiences from your ministry, notice what was stirring in you, and listen for how God may be present and inviting you to grow. My hope is for you to become more grounded, more free, and better able to offer your presence to those you serve.

Questions
Who is supervision for?

Supervision is for ministry practitioners of all kinds who want reflective support for the work of caring for others. This includes spiritual directors, pastors, chaplains, ministry staff, nonprofit leaders, lay leaders, and others who accompany people in their lives and faith. Whether you’re a student in training, new to your ministry, or have served for decades, supervision can be a source of insight, renewal, and sustainability.

What are sessions like?

Sessions take place online or in person, usually last one hour, and occur about once a month. Before each session, you’ll prepare a brief written reflection on a particular ministry moment, such as a conversation, encounter, or situation, along with a focus question you’d like to explore. After a time of centering, we’ll reflect on that experience together, attending to your responses, reactions, and the movement of God within it as we discern invitations to continue growing.

How is supervision different from spiritual direction?

In spiritual direction, the focus is your life with God. In supervision, the focus is your ministry work: your presence, your responses, and your growth in serving others well. Supervision is also distinct from therapy, mentoring, coaching, and administrative oversight, though it may touch on elements of each.

What are your training qualifications?

I completed supervisor training through Together in the Mystery, which forms compassionate, contemplative supervisors through a process of personal and professional transformation. I also hold a spiritual direction certificate from Portland Seminary and a Master of Divinity from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, and I’ve served in various ministry settings for two decades. I participate in ongoing peer supervision and am committed to the CSDA Code of Ethics.

Is there a cost?

Supervision is offered on a sliding scale of $60–90 per session, with a reduced rate available for students. I invite you to choose the amount that feels sustainable for you. If cost is a barrier, please reach out. I’d be glad to talk about it.
