During the seasons of Lent and Easter our church is going through the basics of Christian belief in the Apostles’ Creed. Each week we are reflecting on a different line from the creed and during the week we are reflecting on various scriptures that speak to the theme. Every Wednesday there is a psalm and an invitation to rewrite it in our own words.
This week we considered “the holy catholic church, the communion of saints.” This week’s psalm is Psalm 133 a psalm that rejoices in unity among God’s people through various images. Here is my own poem, inspired by the psalm:
How good and pleasant it is
when God’s people live together in unity!
It is like confetti bursting forth
And dancing as it descends in celebration.
It is like rain falling down,
No solitary drop as it waters the earth.
It is the rustling of leaves
As trees give voice to wind.
For God dwells among his people,
The Spirit is heard in the sound of their songs,
The life of Christ revealed in lives that are shared.
