Reading Ruth in a Jewish Liturgical Context

This paper first highlights issues of purpose that have arisen in the Jewish tradition and then develops an understanding of the book of Ruth in its Jewish liturgical context as a text read during the Festival of Weeks. Seeing Ruth in this context provides a richer look at the themes of the providence of God, the nature of community, and the embrace of Jewish culture which emerge from the book.
